blog 1.5

Time sure does fly. I can't believe the first quarter is already about to end, looking back on my practice blog I feel as if nothing has really changed, it still feels like the school has just started. My perception of the building itself though has changed. At first, I felt like I was never really gonna learn the layout of the school since it seemed so complicated at first but later on I've gradually gotten used to it and now it doesn't seem as complex as I originally thought. The book I picked in September was "misery" by Stephen King and so far its pretty good, I'm almost halfway through the book. I really like how it feels like your in the protagonist's head a lot of the book is just the thoughts and crazy ideas he has. the story so far is that Paul Sheldon who is the protagonist wakes up in a stranger's home after a car crash. Paul at first tries to move only to find out his legs are completely busted and that he won't be moving for a long time, eventually, he discovers that his number one fan is taking care of him. At first, things don't seem too bad but then he sees that his number one fan is actually crazy and won't let him leave until he writes her a new book(Paul Sheldon is a famous author in the story).

My favorite post that I've made so far has to be the one about ambition. I felt like I was easily able to get my point across and describe what the positives and negatives of ambition are. If I were to critique it though I would want to cut it down on the repetition, It feels like I repeat myself too much.
Now the post I see the room for most improvement is the one about Henrietta Lacks, I didn't exactly know what to say because the story of Henrietta was always boring to me, I never found it that interesting and the book was a chore for me to read. To me, that blog was just all over the place and probably didn't make much sense. In order to make my online presence more memorable, I think that my blogs would have to talk about more interesting topics as well as have more intriguing images to capture peoples attention. I haven't really encountered any problems with these assignments so far, it just feels like I'm still writing a normal paper for homework every week.

My academic goal for the second quarter is to get a 95 average in English, I will try to pay more attention as I keep constantly wandering off into my own mind and begin to daydream a lot. I also need to stop procrastinating and sleep earlier as I am usually very tired at the beginning of the school day. I hope that I do better this next quarter but I myself will have to put in the work and not rely solely on hope to get me those grades I want.

Blog 1.4 Ambition

Ambition is both a blessing and a curse. Ambition can drive someone to do great things and stay motivated for their goals in life, it could help them be successful and stay on track when others would just give up. For example a students ambition could be to get the highest grades in the class which is obviously good as that student will most likely study more and pay extra close attention to the teacher during class. This will most likely lead the student to live a better life as with better grades it'll be easier for him to get into college and get a job they actually want. On the other hand ambition can also be detrimentally bad. For example that same student that wants those high grades could possible ignore friends or family because they want to study or maybe they'll be discontent with themselves because they're striving too hard to be perfect, and then at one point they'll get tired of working hard and find other malicious ways to get better grades such as cheating. So in short ambition is like a double-edged sword, it will help you stay motivated and on track for your goals but you have to make sure you don't lose sight of the things that truly matter in your life as you make your way to that goal.

Blog 1.3 Impartial

Impartial means to treat all rivals or disputants fairly, some synonyms are unbiased, neutral, and nondiscriminatory. Obviously with this in mind it is very important to be impartial in arguments as you always have to make sure you give both sides a fair chance. You have to hear all the facts before you make a decision or judgment. For example a judge has to be impartial because they want to make sure they're not gonna arrest someone who is actually innocent, the judge has to pay attention to both sides and hear all the facts, the judge also shouldn't be biased as that will probably make them ignore certain things in order to support one side. The government always has more power than a citizen will ever have but that's why we need impartial judges to make sure the person has a fair trial and no one is accused of something they never did. From that you can see that it is always important to be impartial in arguments or discussions because you don't want to be seen as ignorant or biased to one side as then you will miss out on info that could possible persuade you to change opinion, its always good to listen to what other people have to say.

blog 1.2 "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks".

The main idea for 10th grade English is morality and ethics and what a better way to start the year than with the book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks". The book is about ethical issues of race and class in medical research. The story is centered around Henrietta Lacks who was a black woman whose cancer cells became the first immortalized cell line. The problem with this is that her cells were taken without her consent or knowledge and her family never made a single penny off the multi-billion cell industry that launched from her cells. This sparked controversy as people were debating as to whether or not it was ethical to do this without the person's consent. The book also talked about other instances of unethical practices such as the time a doctor injected cancer cells into patients without telling them. He lied to them saying that he was only testing to see if they had cancer.

And the asylum for the negro insane where they preformed sick experiments on people because of their race and because of the fact that they were crazy. This book is perfect for us to get into the basics of morality and ethics and how our community could greatly change how we think as well as how our childhood shapes us as a person

Blog 1.1 Perspective

Everyone has their own opinions on things. We all see things in a different light and the type of info we receive on certain subjects can greatly affect our perspective. For example imagine there are two people standing on opposite sides of a desk that has a large round object in the middle. From one side the object appears to be black while from the other it looks white. Now if you were to ask one person on the white side what color the object is they would say white while the person on the other side would be shocked and say that its obviously black . These two people would begin arguing over who is right and who is wrong. Perspective is everything. Experiences growing up could also greatly affect decision making, for example if you have experience with drugs in your childhood you might agree with making marijuana legal while someone who's never tried it could be against the idea. As a child we always believe that our parents are never wrong and that we should follow in their footsteps to be successful. Another example could be if you grew up with parents that swore a lot, you'll probably think its ok to do so as well. So in the end there are always two sides. There will always be people who find other people's ethics unethical. We've all lived a different life so we'll all think differently

Practice

cat is sad
Welcome to the Blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to my forced blog. I've never really been interested in doing something like this but now i have to since it counts as homework and homework counts as 20% of my grade, oh well i will just get used to writing on this website. Anyway I will use this blog to write about whatever my teacher tells me to or whatever else happens to cross my mind. My day so far has gone by really fast since I've been sleeping throughout most of my classes, I try my hardest to stay awake but eventually my eyes just give out and i fall asleep, hope i didn't miss anything important while i was sleeping. So far its the 13th day of school and I've already gotten pretty accustomed to the schools layout, I was completely overwhelmed by the size of the school when i first walked in, I expected myself to never be able to adapt to such a huge school but before you know it I'm walking like a robot class to class without any problem. That is all the time i have for this blog because the bell is gonna ring and this blog is due today.
